22Ti – Titanium Handlebar Stem

22Ti are a start-up company producing high quality titanium bicycle components that are fully designed, manufactured and tested in the UK. Their approach is to take advantage of the mechanical properties of titanium and create a product range that is designed to last a lifetime. Their initial product is a titanium mountain bike stem and componentry that has been tested to the most extreme load cases and standards.

We collaborated with 22Ti back in 2020 to design and develop two sizes of their initial flagship product (35mm & 50mm). A titanium mountain bike stem that is extensively machined to a weight that is comparable to that of a conventional aluminium stem. Although a costly material, using titanium has many advantages and the design includes a range of innovative features that are only possible with the given material properties. This includes blind bolt thread holes and a one-piece design that incorporates a full wrap around clamp. Whereby the yield strength of the material allows for the clamp to be effectively opened and a high-rise handlebar inserted with ease.
